The speaker is Jane McGonigal and I just love her. She's got a PhD Performance Studies and is a game developer. She has long been a proponent of gaming and has been trying to convince everyone for years that the world would be a better place if everyone would just play more games. She put her money where her mouth is a few years ago when she suffered a severe concussion and almost died and made up a game to help her heal.
This video is from a TED Talk lecture where she challenges the audience to earn 7 1/2 extra minutes on their lives by playing a game with her. The video is 18 minutes, but well worth the watch.
PROMPT:
How do you feel about what Jane McGonigal has to say about games helping people to live better lives?
I personally am not a big gamer. I really don't play video games that much but I do respect her opinion that video games help transform your life. This video doiesn't make me want to just play video games all day but I would definitwely give thema try.
ReplyDeleteI agree but disagree at the same time. Playing video games is a stress reliever because your playing something fun. However, playing video games makes you more lazy to the point where people will sit in front of the tv or computer and eat junk while playing the game or they wont eat at all because they're so into the game. But you never know, it might does but its worth to give a try.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is awesome that she used a game to heal herself. When talking about making your life better she wasn't just talking about video games. I feel as if a game is anything that makes you think and react or try to better yourself in. I certainly believe her since she has the scientific facts to back it up. Every now and then I do enjoy to play video games, but I don't get to that often. I used to play all the time when I was younger so hopefully that added at least 10 years on to my life! That was a pretty interesting speech and I enjoyed watching it.
ReplyDeleteI also think that it is great that she used a game to help heal herself. I do believe games can help people live better lives because games are fun and they make people happy and help people interact with each other more. I don't really play video games that much, but when I do I can say that I enjoy playing them.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't get the whole idea of how a game can give you extra time on earth. Its all about your health diets and GOD. Only he knows when we will go, so all of this other talk about extra time to live is a mind theory.
