Legalizing Marijuana

Is marijuana really bad for you? This is what I questioned myself in the 8th grade as I went through many D.A.R.E sessions and society was saying that it was a bad thing. I eventually went to high school and was peer pressured but always turned it down because of what society told me. Well one day in college, I needed an essay topic to research and I thought this was a great idea. As I researched it I saw a lot of pros of using this “drug” and very little cons. A few cons that I saw was smoking it leads to lung cancer. Scientifically it is right because smoking anything can lead to lung cancer. Its not the plant but it’s the smoke. Smoking water vapor could also result in lung cancer because its still smoke. Another con I saw was focused on people who smoke through plastic bongs. Such as water bottles created to smoke out of. Many pros are that cancer patients use this plant to gain appetite. After cancer patients go through chemotherapy, it usually kills the appetite and the plant brings it back. Another pro is that it can be a bonus to the economy. Have you noticed that the things that actually can kill you are legal? Such as liquor is legal, cancer sticks also known as cigarettes are legal. If marijuana was legal, then it would be easily accessible and a tax could be placed on it to make money.

How do you feel about marijuana and the effects?

How do you feel about how the plant is placed under the societal damage?

Why do you think its not fully legal yet?

Living on campus

Coming to college, I thought living on campus would be a better experience regarding really being independent. Living on campus can have its pros and cons. A few of these pros can be being close to classes, you meet new people and also it’s a few things such as having study rooms and also being able to make relationships just by location. A few cons that I have experienced since living on campus are like how we have a limited amount of freedom. Moving on campus, I thought that I would be free and be “Grown” like they say. For example, students staying in dorms cant have company after midnight. This is childish to me because not only can we not have outside visitors but we cant even have people that stay in the same dorm in our room. So for instance, If I wanted to hang with a friend or just a late night study session I cant do it. All of the study rooms are closed and we can’t have visitors in our room. Another example of a con about living on campus is that we pay a bunch of money in tuition and we still have to pay for laundry. A dollar for each wash and dry load is a lot after we already pay a ridiculous amount staying on campus. One example of a bad experience was that my roommate was always really messy and carried a bad odor. One day my roommate and I got into a heated altercation just about being cleaner. After years of having my own room, It was a hard experience to share a experience such as that. So just many experiences such as having a bad roommate and the sanitary condition that you are used to is subject to change being on campus.

My questions are do you enjoy living on campus?

Have you had any bad experiences regarding sanitation or roomates?

How do you feel about being “Grown” but still having a curfew and you are not able to have visitors after a certain time?

My Freshman experience

Everyone said college was awesome. I was willing to believe anything after spending 4 years in High School. High School had its good and bad moments but I was definitely ready to graduate. I haven't exactly seen that college is "awesome". I do think it is better than high school though. There are probably a few reasons why I haven't found college to be as enjoyable as everyone else has. First off I don't live on campus. I commute daily and have about a 40 minute drive. So technically I am not getting the full college experience. Secondly its Freshman year. The year we take the large work load of core classes. The same old classes we took in high school just harder. I don't think there is anyone that enjoys taking math, biology, history, and English all at one time. I have had to do that both semesters and it is miserable. I have been told that it does get better by upperclassman. I sure hope they are right about that. I have learned that you can not get by in college if you don't study continuously and are not organized like you could in High School. It is a totally different ball game in college. The work load is very large. Hopefully after the first few years it will slow down and be a lot more enjoyable.  I am not saying I haven't enjoyed my freshman year because I have met a bunch of people and learned a lot of things. This year has definitely been stressful. It's coming to a close with only about a month left of the semester and I couldn't be happier. I think all of us are ready for summer break. Freshman year has been a good experience and hopefully we all will come in for our sophomore year in the fall and be a lot more comfortable.

My questions for you are:

How has your Freshman experience been?
Have you enjoyed it?
Do you look forward to the rest of college?

School *inserts eye-rolling emoji*

I can't be the only one who hated high school. I hated everything about it. Waking up at 6 a.m. to catch the bus at 7 a.m., just to arrive to school at 8:15 a.m..... Going to class with a bunch of people who talked about one another. It was pretty terrible.

Growing up I was told that high school would be one of the best experience of my life. Watching tv shows like That's So Raven, Hannah Montana, Lizzie McGuire, All That, and High School Musical, I just thought it would kind of be like that. I don't even talk to half of the people I went to high school with. I walked in with about 10 friends and left with three.

My high school career wasn't completely unfortunate. I was the only one in the county to play a specific instrument, I was chosen to play with the air force band. Band was really life! It was also very stressful. Our teachers sat us in a small, hot, and crowded room. Teaching us almost nothing, I mean I remember almost nothing from high school. Maybe it was just my school.................

Elementary was where it was at though! Nap time, snack breaks, and recess. Best five years of my life!  I'd have to say, if I had to chose to go back to Elementary, Middle or High School..... I'd pick Elementary any day.

What was your favorite time period of school? Elementary, middle or high and why is it your favorite?

Why are you naturally scared of spiders?

Have you ever wondered why you are scared of spiders? You've never had a traumatic event happen to you, that includes spiders... So why are most people scared of them?

The answer my dear friends, is that you're taught to be scared of them. Yes...... taught.

Doesn't sound right? Just bare with me while I explain my theory...... It started two weeks ago in my psychology class. We were learning about fears and where they come from. The professor said, "raise your hand if you're scared of spiders.". About 95% of the class raised their hands. Other than myself and maybe two other students, no one really had a valid reason on why they were terrified of the tiny creatures.

My professor then went into detail, saying that you are taught to be scared of something. He told us that when you're younger, a parent or sibling can show their fear of something, and you'll automatically have the same fear. He then showed us a video of a little baby playing with a snake, and it wasn't just a cute video of an unusual pair of friends. This snake was obviously angry, he was hissing, jumping at the child and what it sounded like growling.

Naturally, with those signs, its obvious to remove the child or to even show fear, but the neither the parents nor the child did either. The child continued to play and his/her parents continued to laugh and talk amongst their friends as if it were a normal day. Some may believe that since it were across the world in India, maybe thats why the baby showed no fear, yet that wasn't the case.

The baby showed no fear because the parents were brave and acting as if nothing were happening. They didn't snatch the little baby away, scream or panic. They laughed with the baby, therefore he/she had fun like any other day..........

I personally wouldn't say that I'm afraid of snakes, but I definitely wouldn't be near one, let alone have my child playing with one.

My question to you all is, what is something that you're frightened by and what happened to make you fear such.

Non idealistic jobs but someone has to do it

As I am matriculating into a young adult, I see people much older than me holding jobs that I am able to get. I am referring to jobs such as crew members or cooks at a fast food place, waiters at some type of dine in, even janitors at nearly every organization. These are referred to as blue collar jobs because they focus a trade or skill learned through training. There is a huge stigma overhead these type of jobs where all people think if you choose to work this, you are close to the scum of the earth. What I find peculiar about these thoughts is that these so called “scum of the earth” are people working hard to get somewhere higher in command or perfecting their craft. I have had the pleasure (yes I said pleasure) of working at a fast food restaurant towards my last couple of years of high school because of the people I met. You cannot simply categorize everyone in a restaurant because each person has their own motives. They may need extra money to pay for a habit, raise a family, help parents pay bills, etc. For example, society cannot falsely tag me as scum because I look like a young kid who just wants some extra money. For the other majority of the workers who were employed belong to the age group of 23-40 which did not surprise me, are subjected to the type of discrimination I discussed earlier. It is depressing that no one gives these blue collar workers to show themselves as a person outside of work. We're all similar except for being on different paths to success or satisfaction. One of the main misconceptions is that these low-grade blue collar jobs are easy to get and perform. From experience, I can tell you that is a blatant lie because any job dealing with people is difficult. Working with co-workers and bosses all the way to dealing with customers is a chore in itself. Then comes focusing on the job which are things like prepping food, cooking, cleaning, and giving attentive and inventive vibes in the workplace. Those may sound like things you do at home, but at a job, it’s a must and on a commercial scale. It takes not only skill, but you have to keep cool in high-pressure situations  and work at the speed of you guessed it “ fast”. I believe anybody who has not done fast food, service or janitorial work should not be able to criticize that line of work. They will never know how intense it could get especially if you compare it to a cubicle desk job. In its own way, these blue collar jobs are just as important and necessary to society. The next time you order from your favorite place or dining at your favorite buffet, remember that the workers are people with lives too.
Have you ever worked a blue collar job? If so where at?
Where is your stance on how valuable these jobs are to society?

Dear Men,

I noticed lately that guys tell woman that they don’t like when we wear weave or make-up. Many men prefer natural they usually say they enjoy our natural beauty than us wearing make-up and weaves. Many men think that women that wear make-up or wear weave in their hair, she must be either ugly or she doesn’t have hair. Which is not the case, many woman wear make-up because it makes them feel more beautiful when they go out. No girl wants to have her average stay in her room natural face on when she goes out and wants to have fun. Make-up is fun to do in a way you can learn different ways that work for yourself. Make-up gives the woman the power to be artistic in her own way on her on face. And guys don’t understand that. Of course we look different under makeup, but that shouldn’t give a guy a reason to not embrace a woman when she wears make-up and wears weave. Many women have blemishes on their and in their case wearing make-up is to boost their confidence. But when guys talk about how they’re going to “take a girl swimming before their first date” doesn’t make woman want to not wear makeup but it lowers the confidence of a women. To know that her blemishes will never be accepted by a man. Some men also don’t like when woman don’t wear weave. Myself have been in this situation before. Men don’t know half the reasons women wear weaves. But here is two
1.      Many women wear weaves for a protective hair style to not damage their own hair
2.      Many women simply don’t feel like doing their hair
Wearing weaves for women is so easier. Some men think that if you wear weave then you must not have hair, which is not the case. Women should be able to wear make-up and weave and still be embraced by a man as if she wasn’t. Many men believe the “NATURAL LOOK” is easy, but in reality its difficult. 1. It depends on your skin and hair. There are many factors for break outs on a women skin and one of them could be from going natural.  When you have natural hair you have to maintain maintenance on it such as making sure it’s clean, make sure its moisturize, but not to oily. Many women have to put heat to their natural hair which causes it to break off, which eventually leads in her in wearing weaves. Putting too much oil in your hair cause you to get pimples from too much oil touching your face.

Men may think being natural is easier and satisfying, but believe it or not the women’s appearance is high maintenance itself. Men should embrace women by their flaws and embrace a woman when she has make-up on and wears weave. Us women don’t wear make-up and weaves for the men, but the satisfying feeling that we get when we know we look good.
