White Thievery??

There has been a trend lately on White America "inventing" things that were already invented.. and no this isn't a hate post about white people but somebody has to say something right?
Anyways, the most common cases we see these "new" styles being made came from the African American culture who has been wearing these styles all of their lives but it often goes unnoticed.  Hairstyles and body features that were once shamed upon them are now trendy styles?
Some examples of these styles are:
*Nappy hair
*Big Lips
*Darker Skin
*Thick Thighs
*Big Butts
*Baby Hairs
*Cornrows
*Du Rags
*Eyebrow slits
*Wearing natural hairstyles (Bantu Knots, Afros, etc.)
...just to name a few. About 5 years ago African Americans were picked on about these features but now they're a trendy, high-fashioned, runway look?  These styles are now worn on white women who are celebrities/ models and magazine articles call the looks new and exciting but they have always been here.  I'm not against White America wearing our styles but hey, at least give us credit for it and don't act like you've invented something that has been existing for centuries!
Do you feel that this should be addressed more or what's your opinion about this situation?

  1. I too have noticed that some white people have been "jocking" our styles. Lately the Kardashian/Jenner's have been all in the media for supposedly creating looks that have been around for centuries. One that particularly caught my eye was Kim Kardashian's "Boxer Braids" that she wore for New York Fashion Week. I find it particularly interesting that the blogs have called her the official creator of these braids that i've been wearing since before I can even remember. This is one example of white appropriation that made me angry!!!

  2. I believe they talk about our styles then make it into their own style and it doesn't even look right on them. Not to be mean but its like the Great Value version of our style. Especially the Bantu knots and big Afros , hairstyles they know their wont be able to look like ours unless they do something to it. It made me mad when they said the Kardashians/Jenner's made the two braid hairstyles, in my head I was like how we have been doing that for years ever since i was little I've been doing that like and now they're the ones that get praised for it.

  3. I believe that its a crazy situation how white americans are mocking our sisters for things that they were criticized for years. Such as stories say that Kylie made it cool to have big lips and the Kardashians also now all of a sudden wear braids and its called the "new fashion".

  4. I totally agree. I really hate how poeple praise the Kardashians for doing thing that people have been doing for years! People really praise them and say that they make everything a new trend, when really they are not. They just copy other people and try to make everything their own.

  6. I think that the media does this purposely to raise views for their articles, videos etc because it seems crazy that they can just overlook the decades where African Americans have been wearing these hairstyles
