Living on campus

Coming to college, I thought living on campus would be a better experience regarding really being independent. Living on campus can have its pros and cons. A few of these pros can be being close to classes, you meet new people and also it’s a few things such as having study rooms and also being able to make relationships just by location. A few cons that I have experienced since living on campus are like how we have a limited amount of freedom. Moving on campus, I thought that I would be free and be “Grown” like they say. For example, students staying in dorms cant have company after midnight. This is childish to me because not only can we not have outside visitors but we cant even have people that stay in the same dorm in our room. So for instance, If I wanted to hang with a friend or just a late night study session I cant do it. All of the study rooms are closed and we can’t have visitors in our room. Another example of a con about living on campus is that we pay a bunch of money in tuition and we still have to pay for laundry. A dollar for each wash and dry load is a lot after we already pay a ridiculous amount staying on campus. One example of a bad experience was that my roommate was always really messy and carried a bad odor. One day my roommate and I got into a heated altercation just about being cleaner. After years of having my own room, It was a hard experience to share a experience such as that. So just many experiences such as having a bad roommate and the sanitary condition that you are used to is subject to change being on campus.

My questions are do you enjoy living on campus?

Have you had any bad experiences regarding sanitation or roomates?

How do you feel about being “Grown” but still having a curfew and you are not able to have visitors after a certain time?

  1. Fortunately, my experience living on campus has been amazing. I get along great with my roommate. She's clean, fun, and really nice! We haven't even got into an argument all year. I was worried about the whole roommate thing because I'm an only child and have had all my own things my entire life, but surprisingly it worked out amazingly. And as for freedom, I feel very free. I do agree that the visitation rules are a bit over-dramatic, along with the laundry prices, but overall it's very doable. The particular building that I live in isn't too strict, so its fine with me.

  2. My experience on campus has been okay. I don't have any problems with my roommate. She is very clean and keeps her things up, just like me. I am able to have conversations and laugh with my roommate as well. When it comes to the sanitation in my dorm building, I can't say I love it. The showers are nasty and I don't like the visitation hours. I like to have things that I own and have clean surroundings. I want to have the freedom of having visitors whatever time of the day .

  3. I don really like living on campus simply because I think that I live in the worst dorm here. I currently like in Morrow Hall. Morrow NEVER has visitation. We also cant have our own refrigerators and microwaves like everyone else I think that that is just ridiculous. I have already signed an lease for a new apartment for next school year. I am really looking forward to having my own spot

  4. My on campus experience hasn't been too bad. I stay in Morrison now, in my opinion it's the best dorm on south side. The only bad experience I've had is my roommate being junky and the showers in the bathroom having little bugs.
